High Season
Phuket’s high season, running from November to April, brings warm, dry weather with abundant sunshine and clear blue skies. Temperatures typically range from 24°C to 32°C, accompanied by gentle breezes, creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities and beach life. Upon arrival, you will find an island bustling with energy, reflecting its peak popularity.
This period sees Phuket at its most vibrant. The calm seas are perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and island hopping, making the beaches the central point of activity. The atmosphere is lively, with a full calendar of local festivities, including Loy Krathong in November and the Phuket Old Town Festival in January, showcasing traditional culture and entertainment. Life moves at a brisk, celebratory pace, inviting visitors to experience the island’s full spectrum of offerings.
Low Season
The low season, from May to October, marks the arrival of the monsoon, characterising Phuket with a greener landscape and a more relaxed pace. While daily rainfall is common, it often occurs in short, intense bursts, leaving plenty of sunny intervals. Temperatures remain warm, typically between 25°C and 30°C, though humidity is higher. As you land, you will notice a quieter, more tranquil island atmosphere.
During these months, Phuket reveals a different charm. The seas can be rougher, better suited for experienced surfers on certain beaches, while waterfalls swell with rainwater, becoming impressive natural attractions. The island embraces a more laid-back lifestyle, offering a peaceful escape from the crowds. While some outdoor activities might be weather-dependent, cultural experiences, local markets, and indoor attractions continue to thrive, providing an authentic glimpse into local life away from peak tourist activity.
