High Season
Sanya's high season runs from October to April, characterised by warm, dry weather and pleasant temperatures typically ranging from 20°C to 28°C. This period offers abundant sunshine and low humidity, creating ideal conditions for enjoying the city's coastal environment. Upon arrival, you will notice a bustling atmosphere, with beaches, resorts, and popular attractions vibrant with activity.
The city's rhythm during high season is energetic and outward-looking. Outdoor activities such as swimming, sunbathing, and watersports are at their peak. You can experience a lively social scene, with many cultural events and festivals often taking place, particularly around Chinese New Year. The comfortable climate ensures that daily life revolves around the outdoors, with evenings remaining mild and agreeable for strolls along the coast.
Low Season
The low season in Sanya spans from May to September, marked by higher temperatures, increased humidity, and a rainy season. Daily temperatures often exceed 30°C, and afternoon showers, sometimes heavy, are common. The city feels quieter and more relaxed during this period, with fewer visitors creating a calmer atmosphere.
During these months, Sanya adopts a more tranquil pace. While outdoor activities remain possible, they are often enjoyed during the cooler mornings or late afternoons to avoid the midday heat. The lush tropical vegetation thrives with the rainfall, giving the landscape a vibrant green appearance. Although there are fewer large-scale events, you might encounter local fishing festivals or community celebrations that offer a glimpse into everyday life without the usual crowds.
